Our Process

Our appliance recycling process is hassle-free—all you have to do is drop off your item or schedule a pickup, and we’ll handle the rest.

When you drop off your old appliances to our facility (or have us pick them up), here’s what we’ll do:

  1. Evaluate which components can be refurbished.

  2. Disassemble components that can’t be refurbished and recover any usable materials.

  3. Send refurbished components back into the market or send recovered raw materials to manufacturers.

  • Protecting the Environment: Appliances, like all electronics, can leach toxic substances, like mercury, into the air, soil, and groundwater. These toxic substances aren’t just harmful to the environment—they can also cause significant health issues.

  • Conserving Resources: Michigan is one of the largest manufacturing states in the U.S. When you donate appliances, you’re helping our local economy by providing materials, like copper, aluminum, and steel, that can be sent to manufacturers to reduce energy usage.

  • How Much Does It Cost?
    We only charge fees for certain appliances. Please see the chart below for more information, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions:

  • Do You Offer Pickup Services?
    Yes! We offer pickup services anywhere in the metro Detroit area. See our service area page for more information.
  • I Can’t Carry My Appliances—Will Someone From High Tech Help Me?
    Absolutely! If you have multiple appliances to donate, we recommend scheduling a pickup. All we ask is that you remove any swollen batteries, ensure your items are accessible from the ground floor (unless there is a nearby elevator), and keep them all in one location. Keep in mind that we do not accept large appliances, such as refrigerators.
  • Where Can I Recycle My Old Refrigerators?
    Although we don’t accept refrigerators, we still recommend recycling them rather than throwing them away. Consumers Energy offers appliance recycling rebates for refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers. Click here to learn more. DTE Energy also provides rebates for refrigerators and freezers. Visit Energy Star’s website for other statewide refrigerator recycling programs.
  • Is There a Minimum Amount Required for Pickup?
    No! We’ll pick up any quantity of accepted appliances.
